          André Malraux

          French novelist, art theorist, and statesman (–)

          Georges André Malraux (mal-ROH; French:[ʒɔʁʒɑ̃dʁemalʁo]; 3 November – 23 November ) was a French novelist, art theorist, and minister of cultural affairs.

          Malraux's novel La Condition Humaine (Man's Fate) () won the Prix Goncourt. He was appointed by President Charles de Gaulle as information minister (–46) and subsequently as France's first cultural affairs minister during de Gaulle's presidency (–).

          Andre Malraux () was one of the greatest French writers of the 20th century.

          Early years

          Malraux was born in Paris in , the son of Fernand-Georges Malraux (–) and Berthe Félicie Lamy (–). His parents separated in and eventually divorced. There are suggestions that Malraux's paternal grandfather committed suicide in [1]
